Curious to know how Cignition’s one-to-one tutoring program works? Look no further.
To get started, provide us with some brief information about your student. Tell us their grade level, the subject or content area they need support in, any special instructional needs, including learning disabilities, and your preferred scheduling needs. With this information, we’ll match your student with their ideal tutor.
Our process begins with an introductory session. This initial meeting is designed to establish rapport between the student, their family, and the assigned tutor. We’ll also begin addressing some of the material your student is struggling with.
Following this session, we’ll review feedback from our tutor and follow up with you for recommendations for a long-term tutoring plan. Your student will continue to meet with the same tutor on an ongoing basis, all from the comfort of your home.

What's included in the free trial?
Your child’s first 30-minute tutoring session and evaluation are free, with no commitment required. Your family meets the tutor, begins working on material your child finds challenging, and receives recommendations after we review the tutor’s feedback.
Is my trial confirmed once I select a time on the calendar?
Not yet. Accept the calendar invite and reply to our follow-up email to verify your details and chosen day and time. Accepting the invitation alone is not enough. Tutor matching does not begin until we receive your reply.
How much does ongoing tutoring cost?
Listed rates start at $1 per minute with a 25-session plan, before any additional upfront payment discount. Ongoing sessions are 30 or 60 minutes; other plan options have different rates. We discuss recommendations after the free trial. See full pricing and payment options.
What subjects and grades do you support?
Family Plans offer live, one-to-one K–12 mathematics and English Language Arts tutoring. Tell us your child’s grade, subject, and learning needs so we can match them with a suitable tutor.
What if the tutor isn't the right fit?
You can request a different tutor. Share what you noticed so we can take it into account when considering another match.
Can sessions include help with homework?
Tutors may help with homework when appropriate, but the focus is on building understanding and skills, not simply completing assignments. Discuss specific needs with your tutor.
Can you consider learning differences when matching?
Yes. Share relevant learning needs and the kind of support that has helped your child. Matching can consider relevant tutor experience. Tutoring does not replace specialized services your child may receive.
Is this live tutoring or independent software?
It’s live tutoring. Your child works with a person in real time through conversation and activities. The current family offering is one-to-one, not small-group tutoring.
How does one-to-one online reading and writing tutoring work?
Your child works live with a Cignition tutor on English Language Arts skills suited to their grade and needs. Support can include foundational reading, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing. Students participate through reading, conversation, and responses, with the tutor providing questions, explanations, practice, and feedback.
Family Plans are one-to-one; school programs typically use small groups of two to four students. After the free first session, our team reviews the tutor’s feedback and shares recommendations for an ongoing plan. The focus is understanding your child can use beyond a single assignment.
